10 Thoughts About the Democratic Debate

Some thoughts on watching the first 2015 Democratic Presidential Debate. Notably missing: Joe Biden. Notably upset: CNN. #BidensPodium

1. Bernie Sanders does not look presidential. He looked like he made a bigger effort to comb his hair, but when you put him next to Martin O'Malley and Hillary Clinton he looks like a confused philosophy professor treating the debate as a thought experiment. If you thought he couldn't win before the debate, you definitely thought he looked like he couldn't win after.
2. Anderson Cooper needed a better way to end speaking times than "Thank You". Thank you, thank you, thank -thank you. Come on man, be the moderator! I think you can come up
with another phrase. How about, "that's enough Chaffee, no one knows who you are anyway".
3. Jim Webb killed a guy. "he's not around right now to talk to..." WTF Webb, no one knows who you are, and now they know you killed someone in Vietnam (BTW, we knew you went to 'nam after the first time you said it.)
4. Jim Webb has trouble remembering his kids' names. ...Julia? Oh right. To follow up--I didn't need to know that one of your daughters was a massage therapist. What part of polling at 2% made you want to spend time talking about your kids' professions rather than explaining who you are and why you're running?
5. Hillary killed it with the bathroom joke, and yeah, it would be pretty damn awesome to have a woman in the White House--and it was smart to remind us of it.
6. Martin O'Malley makes a great presidential candidate--in a year that Hillary isn't running. He's qualified, presdiential looking and sounding, and stays true to the Democratic platform. Watching the debate made me wonder if he's gearing up for a run in later years? He's only 52...and he has a six pack, can you say DILF?
7. There was a lot of love for POTUS. At the beginning of the campaign, it seemed like Hillary was going to have to distance herself from President Obama, but last night's debate showed otherwise. All five candidates had seemingly positive things to say about the guy--Hillary may have won, did Obama come in second?
8. All of the Democrats generally agree with each other. There weren't huge points of contention, just a minor revision of what their opponents were trying to say. Definitely makes for a more cohesive party, but unfortunately not for great entertainment.
9. Bernie Sanders has some 'splainin to do about gun control, and he didn't handle it well when he was asked--point to Hillary who shut him down pretty effectively.
10. Hillary Clinton won, and seems to be continuing in a league of her own. Is it Super Tuesday yet?
